Beer vs. Racism Helping in the battle against bigotry is the Dublin Brewing Company, who sponsor their Smithfield neighbours, Sports Against Racism in Ireland (SARI).

SARI's Frank Buckley says the organisation's 2nd annual anti-racism soccer blitz will take place over the weekend of 15/16 August in Blackhall Place.

International star Curtis Fleming is a patron and will make the journey home from Teeside to play, while a team representing the microbrewery will again be making the shorter journey from North King Street.

The microbrewery's beers will be responsible for quenching player's thirsts throughout the weekend, and no doubt a few red cards as well.

The Deadly Dozen The Irish Brews Paper generously treated around 80 not-very-discerning social butterflies to a dozen of the world's best beers:

* Erdinger Weissbier - delicious and refreshing Bavarian wheat beer, for more than 110 years.

* Warsteiner - German's number-one-selling beer in a country of 1,300 breweries.

* Finian's Irish Red Ale - unbeatable twice champion ale at All-Ireland Independent Brewers Festival.

Revolution Red Ale - deep mahogany ale, rich in character and quality.

* Beckett's Gold - a beautifully-balanced, crisp, satisfying, golden ale.

* Duvel - "the devil1s brew", wickedly delightful, from our Belgian friends.

* Chimay Red - brewed for centuries by the Trappist monks of the low countries.

* Maisel's Weisse - a real gem for the summer, with glasses of matching debonair style.

* Satzenbrau - this Dundalk-based pilsner isn't the worst; and with a 5% bite.

* Hoegaarden - this is the Wit standard bearer, from the fertile Brabant region.

* Franziskaner - this is a Bavarian treat, brewed in Munich's bourgeois area since 1363.

* Budweiser - the top of the pile, a beechwood-aged beverage of real class!
