People and Places - D'Arcy's Stout wins by a head The seven newest microbreweries in Ireland - the Dublin Brewing Company of Smithfield, The Porterhouse Brewing Company in Parliament Street, the Irish Brewing Company of Newbridge, Celtic Brew of Enfield in Co Meath, The Biddy Early Brewery in Inagh, Co. Clare, the Hilden Brewery of Co Down and The Whitewater Brewery, Co Down - competed in the second All-Ireland Independent Brewers Festival which was held over six days recently.

D'Arcy's Stout from the Dublin Brewing Company emerged as the top stout overall. No.1 Brew from The Irish Brewing Company won the Best Lager category. Best Ale was Finian's Gold from Celtic Brew while Best Ale (Cask) went to Whitewater.

Leading international beer expert Michael Jackson was among those judging the brews. Michael has tasted over 10,000 different beers and his award-winning documentary series 'The Beer Hunter' has been shown in 15 countries.

There was live music throughout the weekend and over 20 different beers were on offer.
